At St Mary and St Pancras CE Primary School, it is our intent that our teaching of History will allow children to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of the past of Britain and the wider world.
History lessons focus on developing historical skills that empower the children as historians. We have carefully sequenced our History curriculum so that children gain and develop knowledge as they progress through the school, linking together key concepts (Power, Government and Conflict; Social Justice; Exploration; Technology; and Culture). These concepts help the children place their learning in a wider context and allow prior learning to be built on over time.
There are opportunities for the curriculum to be enriched through historical visits. The Islington Library Service provides us with artefacts and resources to spark children’s curiosity and help them understand about the differences between past and present, as well as the impact of the past on their lives today in Modern Britain.
