This week in History Year 5 were recapping the difference between Primary and Secondary sources. We learnt that most of the sources of information that we have in school are secondary sources as most primary sources from Ancient Greece are in museums! We do have a lot of replicas in school though! Year 5 examined the replica artifacts in class and thought about what they could learn from them. These objects offer rich, sensory experiences that textbooks cannot. The children felt the weight of an old coin, thought about what the pottery might have been used for and even looked at a tunic that an Greek child would have worn. Each artifact had a story to tell, and using them in the classroom helps children to think critically and creatively about history.
