Physical Education at St Mary and St Pancras is engaging and fun and teaches our children much more than skills in various sporting activities. We want our children to develop their ability to show respect to the opposing team, lose with grace and applaud other children’s achievements in line with our school Christian Values and focus on excellent conduct and manners; lifelong skills.
We invest in specialist sports coaches to teach PE from Kick London, a company with whom we have an established partnership and whose work is underpinned but Christian Values. The coaches deliver the school curriculum map, liaise with class teachers, feed into the annual written report to parents and also run after-school multi-sports and lunchtime coaching sessions.
Every year, Year 4 are taught cricket by ether Middlesex or Somers Town Platform Cricket Programme; we established a cricket club to cater for the enthusiasm of our children from Afghanistan.
Swimming is taught at the local Swimming pool, either in weekly sessions or through intensive daily lessons over two weeks.
As well as covering the National Curriculum, our school is part of the Camden School Sports Partnership. Led by our able and passionate staff team, our children have the opportunity to work towards and compete in a range of sporting competitions, including those aimed at including children with additional needs. As a result of school-led coaching sessions for girls and boys teams, our boys football team were CSSA Southern Champions in 2018-19 and our girls football team achieved victory in the same competition in 2021-22.
Our after-school sports clubs include football, hockey, cricket & multi-sports- all children in receipt of pupil premium funding have access to a free club every year. Our annual summer Sports Day is one of the best attended event of the year. Children work in house teams through a range of competitive activities and the winning team presented with medals to rapturous applause.
