We celebrated Australia Day in Reception Today.
This involved learning all about Australia – where our teacher Mr Bridgford was born! The children looked at locating Australia on a globe and on Google Earth. We also looked at photos of Mr Bridgford as a child and compared it to life in the UK. Later on, we learned about Australia animals and made up a dance to match each of the creatures – Kangaroo, Koala, Echidna, Emu and Wombat.
For cooking the children made an Australian classic – ‘Fairy Bread’. We also baked some vegemite and cheese twists – although the children weren’t sure about the vegemite!
To finish things off we completed a piece of Indigenous Australian-inspired art. The children had to use cotton buds to draw dots around a picture of an Australia animal. They look awesome too!
All in all it was a lovely day with a bunch of lovely children.
Hooroo!
