This week in Science Year 5 were learning about chemical changes. We found out that chemical changes usually give off a gas or smoke, produce an odour, produce a new substance like ash, change the colour of the material and are usually irreversible. We came up with some example of chemical changes as a class such as boiling an egg, burning wood, baking a cake and digesting food. We then did our own chemical change in class by burning toast and we wrote up our observations about how we knew it was a chemical change.
