Our Reception children have always loved exploring the small world area, but we’ve been looking for ways to boost their creativity and give them more ownership over the landscapes and structures they play with. To do this, we stripped back the area—removing pre-built houses—and challenged the children to create their own habitats using a variety of wooden blocks.

The results have been incredible! With a little guidance and support, the children have built imaginative worlds, showing off their problem-solving skills, teamwork, and creativity. The photos below highlight just how capable they are when given the opportunity to design and construct their own play environments.

A huge well done to Nyla, Jada, Ariella, Zoya, Charmer, and Kaliyah, who embraced the challenge and let their imaginations run wild today. We can’t wait to see what they build next!
