The focus this week in Reception has been London and our local area. This means that the children have been learning about London, our local area – Somers Town – and maps and landmarks.
During continuous provision, the children have had many opportunities to explore real maps as well as to draw and develop their own. One particularly popular activity involves a real-life ordnance survey map of the Somers Town area! The children were challenged to place photos of local landmarks and pictures of their faces on this map to try and show where they live. The children even chose to build houses and buildings using the magnetic blocks and place their pictures inside!
