In art we discovered different types of marks that we can make with paint. We worked with primary colours only. The aim was to mark-make with incidental colour mixing.
· We looked at different ways of using our apparatus. We can drag, flick, twist, draw, press and dab
· We thought about the speed with which we made a mark
· We considered if the sound of the tool we used influenced the way we used it
· We introduced the children to the idea that they can scratch into wet paint (for example with wire, twig or end of paintbrush) – this is called Sgraffito.
· We Introduced children to the idea that they can work with thick paint and not brush it out – this is called impasto.
By the end of this lesson, each child had three sheets of paper painted in primary colours, each overlaid with experimental marks made in other primary colours.
We also spent some time looking at portrait drawing- specifically faces. There are plenty of really fun tutorials on YouTube if you fancied having a go with your child at home!
