Twenty-one Year 6 children have returned from an amazing 4-day, 3-night trip to Tollesbury, Essex, aboard the Trinity Lightship. Below is a summary of their journey, along with some photos highlighting their activities.
The trip began with a 2-hour coach ride from Somers Town. On arrival, the group kicked off the adventure with team-building games under the bright sun, overlooking the marshes as the tide slowly rose. After settling into their cabins, they explored the ship before enjoying dinner. The day ended with a night hike through the marshes, where they admired the starry sky, with Jupiter and the crescent moon shining brightly. Back on the boat, the children warmed up with hot chocolate before heading to bed, getting a good night’s sleep on their first night away from home.
On day two, the children explored the surrounding marshes and the Trinity Lightship itself. The clear skies offered stunning views from the lookout. In the afternoon, they sailed for the first time, an exciting new experience for everyone. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and after sailing, they participated in a lively dodgeball competition. The day ended with a walk back to the boat, gazing at the stars and planets above.
Day three brought the high ropes challenge, where each child pushed their limits, and indoor archery, which became even more competitive with balloons added to the targets. The high ropes course encouraged risk-taking and tested their courage.
The final day involved climbing and bouldering, with everyone supporting one another to succeed. After the last meal on the boat, there was a mix of sadness at leaving and excitement about returning home. Low tide allowed for a leisurely walk along the path, giving the group one final glimpse of the marshes they had come to know so well.
The children returned with full stomachs (thanks to plenty of cake) and unforgettable memories. It was inspiring to see their teamwork and the strong friendships they formed. They are a wonderful group, and we hope their confidence and positive attitude carry them through the rest of Year 6 and beyond!
