Year 2 had an exciting and energetic start to Science Week with a captivating assembly. One of the highlights was a thrilling demonstration where paper was lit, causing a dramatic spark in the air! The transformation of heat energy into light energy was truly magical, setting an electrifying tone for the morning.

Back in the classroom, we explored the concept of adaptation, examining how living organisms change to survive in their environments. The children matched animals to their specific adaptations and discussed how these features help them thrive in the wild. The theme of “Survival of the Fittest” was brought to life through these engaging activities.

Year 2 then created posters focused on a specific vertebrate group, tying into their current Science unit. Using scientific inquiry, the children researched three key adaptations that help their chosen animal survive.

Finally, they presented their findings to the class, which not only deepened our understanding of birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and fish but also continued to teach us about the fascinating and complex concept of adaptation.
