“Our key question for last week was ‘Who explores space and what have they found?’

The best way to learn about this? Role play! During this carpet session, the children learned new vocabulary words such as astronaut, launch pad, space station, and mission control. They also had to consider what equipment astronauts need in order to survive in space, such as: space suit, goggles/helmet, gloves, boots, snacks, and oxygen.

Jason modeled how to put on all this gear with some play resources — and doesn’t he look great — while the children used their acting skills to ‘pretend’ to get ready for a journey into space. To finish off, we practiced counting down toward blast off and watched a video from the Kennedy Space Centre of a real rocket launching into space!”
